Christmas Ornaments make beautiful keepsakes. The craft of designing ornaments is still being practiced by many, including Wisconsin’s own Mora Himel Lincoln. Mora reached 100 years this summer and to celebrate her good health and life, she held a party. Her guests included her closest friends and family, and each was gifted with a hand decorated Christmas ball ornament to commemorate the occasion.
Once a teacher of Japanese flower arranging, one can only imagine what creative skills Mora has applied to her holiday decorating throughout the years. Each ornament she designed for her guests was uniquely different with fine details, including beads and ribbon. The skill and patience it takes to craft such timeless beauties is hopefully a talent that has been passed down through the generations. How rare and pleasurable it is to see such creativity and beauty reflected, and how amazing that each keepsake began as just a glass ball ornament painted in white.
Using hot glue and some of your own Christmas ornaments, try and create some Christmas crafts using Mora’s designs as inspiration. Anything you find can be used as a decoration, so experiment and make sure to share your creations with us!
