Luau theme parties are perfect for the hot summers. Bring cool ocean beaches to your own back yard with Hawaiian decorations, palm tree lights, and authentic luau food that will create a fun day in the sun for adults and kids. Luau theme parties are great for birthdays and neighborhood block parties, and luau party ideas are endless.
Step 1 – Luau Invitations
It’s always fun to announce parties by sending themed invitations, especially for little girls luau parties. Use a beach themed luau template and fill in all the details for your party, then send out in the mail or upload to Facebook to make sure all of your guests are in attendance.
Step 2 – Luau Party Decorations
Hawaiian decorations are an important step in any tropical theme party. Cover tables using bright color fabric or plastic tablecloths, wrapping a grass skirt around the table’s edge. Use pineapples and flower leis as centerpieces and place the luau food around them.
Step 3 – Luau Lighting
Luau lighting and palm tree lights are another important step in decorating for an outdoor party, especially during summer when festivities extend into the night. There are several ways to light a luau, and you can incorporate Christmas lights, or use themed string lights such as flamingoes or palm trees.
Tiki torches are fun, but for flameless lighting safe for all ages, hang outdoor patio string lights above the party. These are also great for after the party and look great near pools.
Use hanging icicle lights above tables or combine with fishing nets for a unique look. If you have some icicle lights from holidays or weddings, use them as decorations all over the indoor and outdoor party areas.
Lighted palm trees are great for poolside parties and truly capture the Hawaiian luau theme. Tropical beach scenes are complete with palm trees. Lighted palm trees can also be brought indoors for game rooms and man caves, placed near drink bars or music floors, and are available in LED.
Step 4 – Tropical Drinks and Luau Food
Traditional Hawaiian drinks are made from tropical fruits. Serve pineapple juice to kids in tiki head mugs for a thirst quenching delight. For adults, try the following Mai Tai recipe:
- 1 ounce light rum
- 1 ounce dark rum
- 1/2 ounce orange curacao
- 1/4 ounce simple syrup
- 1/2 ounce orgeat syrup
- Juice of one lime
For luau food, consider what is traditionally served: ham and tropical fruits like pineapples, mangos, and papayas. The summer is the perfect weather for a BBQ, so fire up the grill and try a Hawaiian glaze for a sweet and tangy flavor. Luau cakes can be as creative as you can imagine, shaped like pineapples, palm trees, and more.
Last Step: Have fun and cool off!
Once your decorations are set up and your food and drinks are prepared, relax by the pool for a day of fun with family, friends, and even pets. Aloha!
