Patriot Day is a time for remembrance and reflection on the tragedy of September 11th, 2001. It is also a day to show pride in our country and all those who serve and protect our freedoms. As the anniversary of September 11th  approaches we would like to offer some ideas on how to commemorate this day and reflect on the spirit of unity that emerged in the aftermath of National tragedy.

Finding an opportunity to volunteer your time, participating in moments of silence and creating patriotic displays are just a few ways you can honor this day in our Nation’s History.

The American flag is a symbol of unity and perseverance for the American people. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies, the stars represent the 50 states of the Union and the colors of the flag are symbolic as well: Red symbolizes Hardiness and Valor, White symbolizes Purity and Innocence and Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice. We have provided a few ideas below on how you can use our Nations Flag and it’s symbolic colors to create a display of pride and remembrance in your home this year.

Place American Flags along your fence to provide a moment of reflection for all who drive by.

If you have young children, creating patriotic memorial wreaths is a wonderful DIY craft to get the whole family involved. Gather red, white & blue ribbon, flags and anything else you think would make the perfect Patriotic Wreath. Use extra supplies to create multiple wreaths for sharing  with friends and neighbors too!  This is a great opportunity for kids to use their imagination while learning about the American Flag and Giving back. Consider using a pre-lit wreath to create a patriotic light display on your front door year round.
